Since I started doing art on Instagram, it has always been my dream to do Inktober and complete it. Inktober in a sense that I will be drawing in my style for the whole month. There was a year I tried following the official list, there was another year I tried to do #peachtober by the Furrylittlepeach. I never lasted a week on both attempts.
This year, I took a different route. I received an art journal from my best friend a few months back, I realized it’s the perfect thing to use. Each page had a prompt. My only problem then was time and materials.

I’m a mom of a very energetic toddler, so the only chance I draw something is during his nap time. In terms of materials, I just moved to a new place and left all my art materials at my old home. So, I did my research and decided to buy colored markers.
The game plan is, I’ll draw as many drawings I can finish during my kids nap time. To do more than one art work, I had to skip sketching on the journal and just go straight to do the prompt.
But, for some drawings I was able to do the planning or sketching in a separate sketchbook. I was able to do that while my kids is awake since I am not filming it. It helped me skip the sketching part on my final Inktober piece.
Most of the entries, I only planned in my head or just drew straight on the journal because I wasn’t able to find time to do initial sketches.
Doing this challenge proved to me that practicing my art with limitations do fuel creativity. Having limits, ironically, was freeing. It allowed me be more at ease doing the art because I knew I am not aiming for perfection but simply being creative.
I really hope I’ll be able to do it again next year and complete the whole set!
